Are VR Ready Gaming Laptops worth the cost, and are they capable of giving us a smooth Virtual Reality gaming experience with a GTX 1070 graphics card? Today I’m unboxing my new high-end ASUS ROG Strix GL702VS VR Ready gaming laptop that is powered by an Intel i7 7700HQ, GTX 1070 and 16GB of RAM.

Other VR Ready Laptops:

So yesterday I purchased the ASUS ROG Strix GL702V, one of the best VR Ready Gaming laptops of 2018 with high-end specifications. The laptop will be used for both making new Virtual Reality videos, comparisons with my existing desktop PC with GTX 1080 Ti and Intel i7 8700K – and of course also for video editing work.

The ASUS ROG Strix GL702VS is a very powerful gaming PC that is VR Ready and capable of running Virtual Reality games with full framerate. The specifications of this VR Ready laptop PC are: Intel i7 7700HQ, GTX 1070, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD and 1TB SATA HDD, 17,3 inch 120Hz G-SYNC display. You can also find modified and upgraded versions of the ASUS ROG Strix GL702VS with other graphic cards, more RAM memory and also storage space.

  1. Hey man! Glad you're part of the ROG family. I'm not a techie guy but learning, if possible could you recommend some setting on how I could maximize the performance of the laptop? We have almost have the same specs. I have a Strix rog. I also want to support your channel, message me how I can. Thanks!

  2. The laptop looks great! I agree with all the flashing lights being unnecessary. I find them distracting as well but maybe I'm just a grumpy old gamer.

  3. SweViver thats a nice laptop but to be honest try to get sponsored and get a MSI GT73 VR Titan with a 1080 2.0 S.S. on all games

  4. did you order Pimax 8k X version? do you think X version can benefit Steam supersampling (4k resolution supersampling setting)since it has native 4k display per eye? im not sure if i should upgrade X version for extra $200. what do you think Sweviver?

  5. What do you guys think of this laptop Asus versus a Acer Predator 17 I was thinking of buying this or the Acer Predator 17

  6. the point of a vr laptop is? You can't upgrade it where it counts so you're stuck with whatever you get at a much greater cost.
It doesn't make sense unless you're shopping your vr game around conventions.

  7. I am sooooo jelly!!!! Good for you, you deserve it Martin! I have a idea for you for a video….using a backpack with the laptop in it and your wireless vr setup….think about it πŸ™‚ That has been my dream FOREVER!….please make my dream become reality πŸ˜›

  8. that audio input is probably a P3 port, it has audio and microphone in the same cable.

  9. If you are suppose to be monitoring things at work, how are you going to do that while engaged in VR? Also would that not be considered time theft against the company? Just throwing that out there

  10. I feel the same about lights on modern laptops and components. My body is 39 years old.

  11. I think you will be very happy with it. When we do multiplayer in our home, my daughter and I use far less powerful notebooks for our Windows Mixed Reality headsets and they work great. I occasionally take one to use in my classes I teach at the university too. So much easier than setting up the Vive. Here is a vid https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10160339793360596&id=871950595 set from a game with a friend.

  12. Well nice stuff but I remember that a week or 2 weeks ago in your Htc Vive Pro price rant you mention that you are regular guy who cant afford Vive Pro , you said that you are out of money at the moment but sudenly you are buying a twice more expensive device for VR. I’m not jealous or something like that but this a bit funny for me πŸ™‚ or us πŸ˜‰

  13. I won’t buy any keyboard where ADWS are highlighted. It looks stupid and I don’t use those keys.
Editing on a laptop? Madness. I use a 34” curved Rog Swift.

  14. Confirmed SweViver is a Bond villain compound guard. I'd be careful admitting you are doing other stuff at your job. In my experience most employers are not that cool…especially Bond villains.

  15. Glad to see that there will be videos of M1070+VR! Since I'm using a laptop(MSI GT73VR) and planning to step into VR world(mainly for flight sim). But I think the heatsink of the GL702VS is not very powerful especially when its loaded heavily…the Frequency may drop or turbo frequency will be gone under heavy stress due to overheat..since the heat pipes of CPU and GPU are linked, the later might be effected too. So perhaps you need to utilize Intel XTU to undervolt it, that will bring down the temperature, which at least will give you a quieter fan operating I believe.

  16. Can you please suggest which to buy ? The predator 17 or asus gl702vs ?m
